ABOUT THE FIRM
The O'Brien Group, Inc. is a privately-held telecommunications
investment and consulting firm.
The company was formed by Paul C. O'Brien, after his retirement from NYNEX (now
Verizon Communications) as Chairman, President and CEO of New England Telephone,
the largest regulated utility providing local telephone service in the five New England states.
The O'Brien Group utilizes the latest communications technologies to
coordinate and manage services of affiliates, associates, other consulting firms
and independent professionals, as may be required, to meet fully and efficently
a client's business needs anywhere in the world.
Through its extensive network of seasoned professionals, many of whom are
former NYNEX executives, the company has at its disposal some of the most
talented and battle-proven managers in the business. By its strategic
relationships with leading-edge vendors and providers, The O'Brien Group offers
a client a complete solution. Collectively, The O'Brien Group provides its
clients with a broad array of telecommunications, information technology,
governance, regulatory and financial skill-sets needed to achieve an intended result.
The O'Brien Group has been engaged by clients worldwide, often on a very
discrete and confidential basis. The Company formed an investment partnership
that acquired a controlling interest in a publicly-traded telecommunications
firm specializing in broadband applications. It participated in a U.S.-based
consortium to design, develop and construct regional Internet network access
provisioning in the Middle East and played a pivotal role in telecommunications
privatization in Kuwait and Egypt. It has extensive experience in China with
wireless, broadband and voice services, having facilitated interconnection and settlement
agreements for an international carrier. It has also provided services to
clients in the UK, France, Australia, South Africa and South America.
On the domestic front, The O'Brien Group's client list includes a power utility
in the Northeast needing strategic and business planning services to create an unregulated
subsidiary to compete with incumbent telecommunications carriers. A Southern state
legislature needing a comprehensive telecommunications and cable regulatory plan to address
issues of new communications technology. Numerous IT start-ups seeking executive advisory
services. The company has been involved with a New York-based Real Estate Consortium
developing connectivity facilities for CLECs, ISPs and
application services providers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states. It also
maintains a close relationship with OEMs, such as Lucent, Nortel, NEC and Cabletron
and service providers like Verizon, Cable & Wireless and SBC, now AT&T. The company is also affiliated
with numerous other consulting firms.
The O'Brien Group operates its own venture capital fund for start-up
companies involved in telecommunications and high technology.
